Mysterious Minnesota
Mysterious Minnesota - Digging up the Ghostly Past at 13 Haunted Sites
is the culmination of four years of investigations and accompanying research.
This book is unique in its presentation of the history of the state, as well as in the fact that the "ghosts" helped drive the research.
"Interestingly, this dialogue became a two-way process over time, in that the ghosts and spirits provided me with information about which I was previously unaware. I would not take anything I was told from the other side at face value of course, but when armed with a new date, detail, or name to research, I found the information offered to be true. I cannot explain how this process works outside of being paranormal, but it does. This supplemented my research and gave me specific data that focused my resources to good effect and led me into areas I would not have otherwise explored, revealing more than I would have found through traditional nonparanormal means alone." "I got this book as a pre-Halloween gift. I'd never heard of it before and now... I can't put it down. Mysterious Minnesota recounts 13 paranormal stories from the Great Lakes Region and a refreshing number of them are NEW. Most paranormal books about the region seem to recite the same old stories and repeat the same old conclusions, never providing any new information...at least nothing very interesting.
The investigators in Mysterious Minnesota did their homework. The hauntings they report occur in locations that are completely new to me. I thought I'd heard them all! The 13 cases in this book are not only fresh, they're told with a satisfying blend of sound science and psychic insight. Paranormal investigators that lean too heavily on one or the other seem amateurish and/or boring to me...like those ham-handed Gear-Guys on TAPS, (TV show) who rely solely on electronics and technology to investigate hauntings. They stomp through basements with their homemade "Spook-o-meters," locating any cold spots in the room and then they announce there's definitely an entity in the house...then they jump into a running van outside and speed away, leaving the much larger story still-untold and the poorhomeowners to fend for themselves.
Equally awful of course, are those slithery, self-appointed psychics, who wear purple capes and wave pink crystals around and eschew all "evidence" that runs contrary to their opinions. (i.e. Slamming doors are never caused by wind, they're caused by angry spirits that the psychic can probably clear away for a reasonable fee.) The point is, a paranormal investigator needs both scientific accumen and authentic psychic insight to really investigate a haunting.
I'm only half-way through the book, but it would seem the author, Adrian Lee, possess both these qualities and these 13 stories are in turn frightening, fascinating and really freaky. " Minnesota Red
"Mysterious Minnesota contains history you never learned about in school! Sometimes bordering on the macabre (most earth-bound spirits did not meet a kind end), this book is highly entertaining, and, dare I say it, educational. History buffs as well as those interested in ghost stories will find this book hard to put down." L Doone
"To write an actual review of the book.... it was a very interesting read and left you wanting more! Being from Minnesota, I was very interested to learn of more places are are to be "haunted" and places that I can myself visit and explore. This book also goes in to detail about the wonderful history of these very places in Minnesota. A historian and a person interested in the paranormal would both appreciate this book. I highly recommend this book even if you are slightly interested in the paranormal. I learned quite alot about historic places in my home state and think that the author did a wonderful job writing this book. Couldn't put it down and hope that there is another haunted locations book in the making by Adrian Lee!" JT
